                                MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Drummers interested in membership in this organization are invited to download the page of the

13 Essential Rudiments (found on the “N.A.R.D. Rudiments” page of this site) for study, practice and examination. If you wish to qualify for membership, please first send an e-mail to the President,

Mark Beecher, when you are ready, and arrangements will be made for you to appear before one of the member judges in your area for an examination. A list of former and current N.A.R.D. members will be forthcoming, so check back on this site periodically. In the event there are no N.A.R.D. members in your vicinity, an exception can be made to have the examination conducted in the presence of a qualified rudimental drum teacher, approved by the members of N.A.R.D., or by sending a video of your performance to either the President or another member of N.A.R.D..

Anyone may join N.A.R.D. - there is no age limitation. However, in order to be an examining judge for N.A.R.D., the member must be 21 years of age or older. Members between the ages of 12 to 21 are considered associate members not eligible to examine new applicants. The judge is to recommend and pass only those applicants who are truly qualified not only to play the 13 rudiments but, in addition, should be tested on the application of the rudiments in playing a solo number to demonstrate the applicant’s adaptability in the use of the rudiments. A further test should be given on reading a simple march --- eight or sixteen bars. If the applicant does not pass the first test, the judge may be of help by pointing out the weak spots and arranging for another test when more practice has been done by the applicant.

The entry fee as a new member into N.A.R.D. is $20 for the first year, only ... and $15 annual dues each following year - if you so chose to continue your active membership. The new member will receive a certificate w/embossed seal, membership card, cloisonné pin, decal, button, magnet, and bumper sticker - all with original retro artwork & designs ... newly digitized. Former members of N.A.R.D. are welcome to rejoin - no examination required - only with proof of former membership, also for the $20 initial fee and subsequent $15 annual dues. Former members will receive a certificate (either with their old numbers or new one) membership card and all the above items sent to new members. And ... being that at the closing of N.A.R.D. in 1977, the membership numbers were so close to the 10,000 mark, the new membership numbers have begun with the number 10000. NOTE: Depending on the workload, it may take between 2 - 8 weeks to process a Membership. Current N.A.R.D. members will receive rebates on all Official N.A.R.D. Merchandise found on the N.A.R.D. Store page, as well as all the full benefits that come with being a member of N.A.R.D..
